Martinique, a European tradition combined with the rich culture and history of its native people and its natural beauty, has been christened the Cosmopolitan Island of the French West Indies. Your excursion choices cover a wide range of activities and locations, including Carbet, where Christopher Columbus purportedly landed in 1502, and the Musee Gauguin, dedicated to the works of post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin, who spent five months on the island in 1887. As part of your walking tour, world-class restaurants and shopping await in Village Creole in the Capitol of Fort de France. You can take a bicycle tour on a St. Tropez-like beach complete with libations and lunch, tour a distillery where the rum for your lunch libation was created, and take a trip to the Volcanological Museum at the former capital of St. Pierre, which was completely destroyed in 1902 by the eruption of Montagne Pelee, a still active volcano whose peak dominates the sky.
