Valencia was a surprise. The old city is charming and authentic still but take just a short walk and you are in the midst of a cluster of the most stunning modern architecture. Though we found the city comfortable to tour on our own, a half-day walking tour imparted a much better understanding of the history here and enabled us to appreciate our stay to the fullest. So check out the architecture, or the gardens if you prefer, hunt for the Holy Grail, or take a bike ride - just make sure not to miss the tapas!
