No trip to Alaska is complete without bear viewing. Although some bears have been spotted from ships and even in town, is unlikely that you will see these sly creatures unless you travel to their home. Last year our success rate was 90% at spotting these awesome creatures!

Everyone knows that the best black bear viewing is in southeast Alaska’s, "Alexander Archipelago," specifically on Prince of Wales Island.... and that's exactly where we'll go!
We'll begin at Ketchikan Harbor where you'll board our comfortable sea plane. Fly for 30 minutes over to our destination. Your guide/pilot all-in-one will narrate and be sure to point out any marine life (whales, sea lion, porpoise) you might see along the way! You might even see other wildlife such as deer, wolves, eagles, kingfishers and other waterfowl.
Our destination is a quiet watershed where bears dig for clams, graze on shore grasses and fish for salmon (the black bear's favorite lunch choice).
The plane will land on the water. You will disembark the plane directly onto the beach. Depending on our exact landing location, you might need to walk in the water before reaching the beach.

This company uses the Cessna 185. In comparison to other Alaskan seaplanes the speed of this plane is humbling. The pilot uses this added speed to reach the destination in less time.

The day we were to go on this, one of your pilots was injured, so we didn't go to Prince of Wales. However, you all were very helpful in getting us on another seaplane. It was a sunny day in Ketchikan, and the ride was beautiful and the guide there was very knowledgeable and fun. We did not see many bears. But, we did see a bald eagle perch in a tree. We saw some sea lions and a few salmons. We enjoyed all of our other ShoreTrip excursions and would highly recommend your company and use you again! |

Our trip was fantastic -- the ride there was breath-taking -- upon our landing we saw two deer just standing on the shore line staring at us! We walked to where our pilot thought there would be bears, by a stream, but unfortunatley there weren't any. We did see some bald eagles and then on our walk back to our plane we spotted a black bear near the shore line! It wasn't very close, but we still saw one! Also, saw a few seals swimming in the waters. A great trip -- only improvement would be if we were able to stay on the land longer.

My clients thought this was the BEST shore excursion they took while on their trip. Everyone at the local vendor they came in contact with did a superb job in making them happy and made a personal connection. Once again, I am happy to have offered ShoreTrips to a client and most happy that they chose your option.

We actually did three trips with you. Skagway, Bear Viewing, and Glacier walk for one hour. The pilot was absolutely wonderful. He is what made this trip one that we will never forget. He was so accommodating. He gave us a great explanation of the area that we flew over. The aerial views were wonderful - truly spectacular sights. As far as the bears, this is where my daughter and I have different opinions. I enjoyed the solitude and being remote. We were the only two people with the pilot. He flew us to a cove and we patiently waited for bear. We saw one bear on the opposite side of the cove. The bear quickly disappeared before our eyes. I think the pilot felt very badly because we did not have the opportunity to photograph the bear. We quitely waited for a second sighting. In the interim, we saw one bald eagle atop a tree, several seals, needless to say hundreds of salmon. Finally a bear came within twenty feet of us. It was a male bear. We had the opportunity of photographing him numerous times before he ventured back into the woods. You and your staff were extremely polite and helpful. Your staff called us back promptly and handled us very professionally.

We loved being in a very small group. This was a fun activity for our whole family. Scenery on the way was gorgeous, and pilot was knowledgeable and friendly. Our pilot was the BEST! We felt as if he was a good friend, and we learned so much about the area from him. He tried so hard to find the bears for us, and we ended up seeing only two, but that was still great. He brought the plane down as close as possible to give us the best possible views. The scenery was spectacular, and we never would have seen that kind of wilderness any other way. We loved that it was just the 4 of us. We hate big groups. Ryan was extra kind to my 12 year old daughter, who was crying with ear pain half way through the flight. We did not fly high enough for altitude problems and finally determined it was the discomfort of the head phones. He coaxed her out of the plane when she wanted only to go back to the ship and brought a smile back to her face when she was miserable. He was very concerned that she was unhappy, and his delightful and caring personality worked like magic, maybe because he also has 2 daughters.
