If you are coming in on a cruise ship, your tour will depart from Piraeus, the ancient port of Athens. If you are staying in a hotel in Athens, your tour will begin at your hotel.

Visit the city center and Syntagma Square, essentially the tourist core of the city. Dominated by the old Royal Palace, now the Greek Parliament (where you can see the changing of the guards in front every hour on the hour!), Syntagma Square is where most of the famous ancient monuments are located. Visit the House of Parliament, the Memorial to the Unknown Soldier, and the National Library.
Now drive down Herod Atticus Street, where you will see the Evzones in their picturesque uniform and the Presidential Palace. On your way to the Acropolis, you will see the Panathenaic Stadium (where the first Olympic Games of the modern era were held in 1896), the Temple of Olympian Zeus, and Hadrian's Arch.
Of course, you can't miss the Acropolis, the trademark of Athens. The ancient "high city" is topped with marble temples dedicated to the city's goddess Athena, and dates back to the Late Bronze Age. Following your climb to the top, you will be rewarded with a visit to the architectural masterpieces of the Golden Age of Athens: the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Erechtheion, and finally, the Parthenon.
In the afternoon you will head out of town, along the coastal road to Cape Sounion. You will be treated to a wonderful view of the Saronic Gulf and the little islands off shore.
Visit the ruins of the Temple of Poseidon, constructed in the 5th century BC over the ruins of a temple from the Archaic Period. The temple is perched above the sea at a height of nearly 200 feet. The 20-foot columns of the temple were intended to resist the weathering action of the sea air, and you can still see them there today.
Please note that on this tour, your driver is not licensed to accompany you on your climb to the top of the Acropolis or inside the Temple of Poseidon. If you want this service, you may book our CITY OF ATHENS AND CAPE SOUNION TOUR.

I hope this helps. This is from all the ladies who took the tours. THEY WERE EXCELLENT!!! They had a great time, saw everything they wanted. The guides were great and helpful.
They were sorry they didn't take tours in Athens, because they had a tough time with the taxis (you told me they would). They were actually thrown out of a cab because they were asking too many questions.
Anyway, your tours were perfect, would use Shoretrips again in a heart beat. |
