ShoreTrips says...
Set your alarm for an early start in Kotor, Montenegro, because part of the fun is entering the Bay of Kotor and gliding for an hour through the mountains on a 17-mile waterway that some people call Europe's southernmost fjord-like body of water.
Sitting along one of Montenegro's most beautiful bays is Kotor, a city of traders and sailors and loaded with folktales and stories. The old city of Kotor is an example of well-preserved urbanization typical of the Middle Ages. Built between the 7th and 18th centuries, its medieval architecture and numerous monuments help earn it the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
From the pier, you will take a 30-minute ride to Perast, which sits in a pocket of a fjord where the innermost bays of Risan and Kotor converge. The remains of a Neolithic culture dating back to 3500 BC has been found above Perast in the caves of Spila. With this magical setting surrounding you, you will enjoy a short walk of about 15 minutes to your boat. The boat is a transfer to the islands, the most distinctive standard bearers of the identity of Perast. There are the two magical islands situated between the Verige strait and the town. Although differing in many respects, they lie in harmonious conjunction, united by the vastness of the sea.
Your time in Kotor will include a one hour walking tour, which is the only way to really view this UNESCO town. A visit to the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon, a monument of Roman culture and the most recognizable symbol of the city, is included in your tour, and there are many more treasures, all with their own story, that will give your time in Kotor more meaning than expected.
