ShoreTrips says...
Visit two stone towns on the Montenegrian coast, brimming with history, interesting architecture and stellar scenery.
Sitting along one of Montenegro's most beautiful bays is Kotor, a city of traders and sailors and loaded with folktales and stories. The old city of Kotor is an example of well-preserved urbanization typical of the Middle Ages. Built between the 7th and 18th centuries, its medieval architecture and numerous monuments have helped to earn it the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your time in Kotor will include a one-hour walking tour, which is the only way to really view this UNESCO town. A visit to the 12th-century Romanesque Cathedral of Kotor, the most recognizable symbol in the city, is included in your tour, and there are many more treasures, all with their own story, that will give your time in Kotor more meaning than expected.
From Kotor, your drive to the seaside town of Budva takes you up into the mountains, through a tunnel and emerges with a scenic view of the valley and dramatic coastline below. From your high perch, you can photograph Sveti Stefan, the famous island that is known for its 5-star resorts.
Budva is a popular destination for both locals and visitors alike who are attracted by its historic Old Town, beaches (Budva is known as the centerpiece of the Budva Riviera) and lively nightlife.
The Old Town, with its narrow cobbled streets, reveals layers of numerous civilizations that have occupied this area and provide an interesting view of the history of Budva: Greeks, Romans, Slavs etc. The most important buildings and constructions in the Old Town are the churches of St. John, Holy Trinity, Holy Mary in Punta, St. Sava, the citadel fortress, and the town walls, built by the Greeks more than 2,500 years ago.
Time permitting, you can do a little shopping, stop for a snack or even go for a swim at one of Budva's beaches before making the return trip to Kotor.
