ShoreTrips says...

Warsaw was once home to the 2nd largest Jewish community in the world (after New York). Today, the city is the center of the movement within Poland to re-establish Jewish communities and revitalize Jewish life.

Guided by an expert in Polish and Jewish history, our tour begins in the heart of Jewish Warsaw on Grzybowski Square. Once a center of life and culture, the square was a battleground of the Warsaw ghetto and was almost entirely destroyed in fighting. The postwar development dramatically re-formed the area but today you can see the Jewish Information Center, Café Menora, Jewish Theater, and the Nozyk Synagogue.

From the square, we will walk to the Saxon Garden, the oldest public park in Warsaw. Once known for its Baroque style and opulent palaces it is still one of the most beautiful and relaxing spots in the city, despite losing most of its defining features in WWII.

The Jewish Historical Institute is one of the defining institutions of modern Jewish Warsaw. Inside, you’ll see exhibits on historical and contemporary Jewish life. Their scholars and academics are on the forefront of developing a cultural memory in Warsaw.

We end our tour with stops at the remaining points of interest in the Big Ghetto, including Nalewki Street, an edge of the former ghetto, the Yiddish Cultural Center, the Kosher Shop and the outside of the POLIN (History of Polish Jews) Museum.
