Your stop in Koper offers you a chance to see one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, The Skocjan Caves. This national treasure of Planet Earth is an awe inspiring opportunity that will leave you both humbled and amazed by Slovenia's natural beauty.

Considered to be on par with the likes of the Grand Canyon and Mount Everest, the Skocjan Caves were formed by the Reka river and represent a natural formation that can't be replicated anywhere else in the world. After being picked up at the cruise ship pier you will head to the Skocjan Caves Regional Park and disembark for the underground bridge that stands about 130 Feet above the Reka river. Enjoy your free time exploring the area with your guide as you take an educational walk throughout the caves.

Your walking tour will start with historical Tito's Square which is home to Koper's most well known monument, the Praetorian Palace and Cathedral. This 13th century Venetian Gothic palace is home to the Koper city government and dominates your attention in the square with its two towers, one on each end. With 3 million euros spent on renovations since 1991 the Praetorian Palace continues to serve as the face of Koper's infrastructure. If you are up for it make sure to request a walk up the 204 step Bell Tower to take in the best views of the port!

At Carpaccio square you will be in the heart of Koper's old town which was named after famous italian painter Vittore Carpaccio. The talking points of this area start at the column of Saint Justine which serves as a memorial for Kopers contribution to the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 where Turkey was defeated by European forces. This naval battle represented one of the biggest defeats of the Ottoman empire and prevented them from flanking Europe along the Mediterranean. At the Almerigogna Palace you will see what many consider the most beautiful building in Koper. With its gothic design and union between two historic buildings you will see why this building is one of a kind in Slovenia.
