ShoreTrips says...

This family-friendly activity is the perfect way to experience the beauty of Anchorage, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. With top quality bikes and local guides leading the way, you'll explore the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, a winding paved path hugging the coastline.

You don't have to be a hard-core biker to enjoy this leisurely ride. Beginning with a downhill coast, the path levels out to mostly flat, allowing you to focus on your surroundings. You never know what will be revealed around the bend of this winding, forested trail. It might be a view of downtown Anchorage, the Chugach Mountains, tidal mud flats, a moose or two, sandhill cranes or maybe even a bear.

We'll visit Point Woronzof for great views of the Cook Inlet and some wildlife viewing, Earthquake Park to hear and see the aftermath of the devastating event that took place here in 1964 and Westchester Lagoon, a wild oasis formed by the combination of 2 artificial lakes and other sites along the way. As you pedal, your guide will inform you about the history of the area, making each location come alive.

With the focus on fun, we'll take several breaks for water, photos and a snack. At the half-way point, about 5 miles, if you decided you've had your fill of biking, you have the option of finishing the tour by van. Those wishing to continue on 2 wheels will find more interesting sites along the next 4.5 miles. Whichever route you choose, you'll come away with a great feel and new appreciation for the city of Anchorage.
