HISTORICAL WALKING TOUR
ShoreTrips says...
History and charm abound on this unique walking tour in which you'll get an up-close view of the many splendid early and mid-18th century buildings sprinkled throughout Newport's Historic District.
Take a walking tour of one of the best preserved colonial neighborhoods in the United States-- Newport's Historic District. This walk, which covers almost 2 miles of Newport's Old Town, is perfect for those whose heart lies in architecture, design, and history. Home to more than 200 colonial structures that pre-date the American Revolution, the Historic District was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1968 due to its extensive and well-preserved assortment of intact colonial buildings.
Highlights of this fascinating walk include: America's Oldest Synagogue, a house that was used by French General Rochambeau, a colonial church where both George Washington and Queen Elizabeth attended mass, and a mysterious stone tower that may have been built by Viking Explorers.
