ShoreTrips says...

Rise and shine, travelers! The only way to experience this beautiful part of Thai culture is to wake up at the crack of dawn.

This tour begins at dawn with a short drive towards the gorgeous Doi Suthep. Here, you will witness dozens of monks winding their down the mountain to the city of Chiang Mai to receive alms from the locals in a visually striking daily ritual. The practice of almsgiving is one of the ways a lay Buddhist can show respect to a Buddhist monk. The monk will then pray for whomever the giver requests. This ritual isn't a form of charity, but instead a symbolic connection between the giver and what the monk represents spiritually.

After witnessing this act of respect, we will drive up the mountain to visit the picturesque Wat Doi Suthep set amidst the beautifully forested mountains. Founded in 1383 AD, Wat Phra That is considered one of Northern Thailand’s most sacred temples. To reach this temple, visitors can climb 309 steps that are flanked with gorgeous dragon statues. For the less fitness-minded, a tram is available for a small surcharge.

Once you reach the temple, you are able to explore the pagodas, statues, bells and shrines. From Wat Doi Suthep, you will also get a gorgeous panaromic view of Chiang Mai below.
