Known as the 'Cultural Capital of India', Chennai is known for it rich history and deep rooted traditions. A city younger than its image, Chennai has blossomed into a charming city within a span of just over 350 years. Situated on the Bay of Bengal, this buoyant metropolis is a blend of the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, and the gateway to the rest of South India.

After a pick up from the cruise pier, your day will begin with an introduction to Chennai. Our first stop will be Fort St. George, the first British fortress in India, and the nucleus from which the British East India Company and British Empire's presence in India grew. Continuing on you'll drive past the Victory War Memorial, Madras University, and the Senate House. Later, we will stop at the Madras Museum where you will visit the Bronze Gallery to admire its superb collection of 9th to 13th century bronzes.

In the afternoon, enjoy a tuk tuk ride to Mylapore, one of the oldest and most beautiful parts of Chennai, also home to many religious sites. Here you will visit the Santhome Church, built during the 16th century by Portuguese explorers. It's Neo-Gothic architecture proves an iconic symbol of the city. Mylapore is abuzz with local restaurants, small shops selling flowers, colored powders, and other items for puja (worship).

You will also take a walk through the area including the four narrow Mada streets which circle the 16th-century Kapaleeswarar temple. Built by the Pallava kings in the 8th century, it is a striking example of Dravidian architecture and the oldest temple in Chennai. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple boasts stunning sculptures and inscriptions dating back to 1250 AD. Non-Hindus and foreigners are restricted from entering the main sanctum of the temple.
