KAIPUPU POINT GUIDED KAYAK AND WALK

KAIPUPU POINT GUIDED KAYAK AND WALK
ShoreTrips says...
Experience the beauty of Queen Charlotte Sound from the water's surface before visiting the extraordinary Kaipupu Point Wildlife Sanctuary.
After just a short walk from the cruise ship pier you'll find yourself at the shore, ready to climb into your kayak and dip a paddle in the brilliant azure waters of Queen Charlotte Sound. Your guide will inform you about the area's history with facts and stories as your kayak silently moves past beautiful beaches and lush hills.
But this paddle is more just than a wonderful way to experience the Sound. We are making our way to the Kaipupu Point Mainland Island, where you can enjoy a short 1.5 hour walk around this community conservation project providing a safehaven for Picton's native wildlife.
Kaipupu Wildlife Sanctuary was created in 2005 to protect New Zealand's wildlife, mostly birds, who are quite unique due to millions of years of isolation. The Sanctuary's work focuses on habitat restoration and pest elimination while educating visitors about their mission. The mainland island is also used as a creche site for young Rowi kiwi, New Zealand's most iconic native bird.
The higher elevation of Point Mainland Island affords splendid views of Queen Charlotte Sound below. You'll be returning there shortly for the paddle back to Picton.
