ShoreTrips says...

Today this tour is very timely. Consider several of the movies out in 2013 that address plantation life of the South long ago, and this tour will bring you more understanding of the difficult lives of the time.

This tour takes you beyond the surface of one of America's great cities. Your narrated scenic drive out of New Orleans will bring you along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain to visit two of the favorite most historical plantations on the west bank of the Old River Road.

As your Driver-Guide prepares you for a pilgrimage back to the Antebellum South, you will journey through the beautiful wilds accompanied by stories, folktales, and the history of the Creole and Cajun people. Almost before you know it you will be disembarking in front of the most famous plantation house in Louisiana. Authentically costumed guides will take you on a tour of this fabulous home, which is as it was left by the last owners, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Stewart. Their nonprofit foundation was created to run this estate and its 25 acres before their death so that this elegant mix of antiques and a lifestyle could be available to educate people of the past.

This is likely where you will enjoy your lunch, in the midst of days gone by. A taste of New Orleans culture will be set before you. Sample chicken gumbo, red beansn' rice or jambalaya as well as assorted local side dishes with a delicious dessert of bread pudding.

Afterward you may want to stroll out back to the levee to work off some of that lunch. Here you will find out why the plantation was named so; steamboat passengers dubbed it Oak Alley as they walked through the quarter-mile avenue of 300 year-old live oak trees, a tribute to Mother Nature.

During the span of the adventure, We drive down to a remote Louisiana swamp in Cajun Country for a thrilling high-speed ride onboard a small airboat, comfortably gliding over marshes, deep into the secluded bayou.

Sometime between your airboat tour and lunch and your arrival back into town you will make a last stop at the plantation known as Laura. This Creole plantation still have the historic slave quarters still surrounded by sugar cane fields and you will be able to visit them as you listen to Laura's tragic story.
