The Panama Canal is known as the 8th wonder of the world and seeing it is believing that it is true. Our journey begins with the Miraflores Locks Visitor Center you'll enjoy the magnificence of this incomparable waterway, its history and much more. Be sure to watch the English language movie showing the history of the Canal and visit the four very comprehensive museum exhibits. Then it's time to make your way to the observation deck as the world’s container vessels, tankers, cruise ships and the occasional recreational vessel pass beneath. Look down into the canal as the waters of Lake Gatun flow into the locks, raising Atlantic bound vessels and as they empty again, allowing ships to pass to the Pacific.

Next we will visit the Biodiversity Museum. Designed by world renowned architect Frank Gehry, the building itself is a marvel to look at and Gehry's only work in Latin America. It's conception served to provide a gateway to new information about the biodiversity and importance of the Isthmus of Panama not only to Latin America, but also to the entire planet. The creation of museum and it's exhibits were overseen by scientific experts whose goal is to teach visitors about eco-awareness, conservation and Panama’s extraordinary natural treasures.

We'll end our day with the Old City, and by foot, we will discover many hidden treasures and secrets of the past. You'll get a good feel for Panama’s history as you walk through the main attractions of this quarter. Defined by its massive historic sea wall, Casco Viejo is a World Heritage Site that was built in the 1670s and was the first European settlement on the Pacific coast of the Americas. You'll feel as though you've stepped back in time as you admire the lovely colonial houses, narrow roads and impressive churches. We will have lunch at a local restaurant in Casco Viejo.
