One of our favorite personalities handles this experience - with passion!

The mysteries of Guatemala are never ending and so much fun to explore. It is wonderful to be able to see a place that is still under the radar in the world of travel. Lost Cities have been the subject of books and movies and this lost city is waiting for you. As it once was a thriving trade center, this ancient city known as El Nito was particularly famous for its jade, which the conquistador Hernan Cortes favored upon his discovery of the village in 1524. You will see the terrace design of the village, the central plaza and the game court, the only one known in the region from this time period.

After exiting your ship, your guide will escort you to your means of transportation, a water taxi. Shortly after your ride begins, you will arrive at the Posada El Delfin Hotel where you will enjoy some fresh local fruits while hearing a little bit about your forthcoming day. Livingston is the main town here and you will return later but for now, you can refresh yourself before continuing on your journey.

The village of Bella Vista Miramar is your next stop, and here you will take a short walk to the ruins to see the remains of the past civilization. The hieroglyphics are so visible as well as the before mentioned game court and the tombs. You will observe a live Mayan ceremony before leaving this area. And - the oldest recorded date ever discovered in the Mundo Maya is etched onto the Leyden Plaque, a piece of brightly colored jade shaped like a hatchet. You will learn of its discovery and see it!

Now you will have a choice of either a hike through the jungle to see the Jaguar Caves or an easy walk to explore the surrounding village. Either way you will find the remnants of the past and the eco system of surprises, showing the past significance of this area. Even the exhibit of the 2,000 year old Mayan artwork is preserved for you to see. A short tour of the Rio Dulce Canyon will complete this portion of the tour before you head back to the civilization in which you find comfort.

Back to Livingston for a great local lunch complete with dishes you are unlikely to have tasted in the past and also unlikely to forget. A short walk through the village of Livingston will round out your day before you head back to the beginning for the end of your tour.
