Head out of Akureyri right away to the desolate part of Iceland. This unpopulated area is the perfect place to practice the adventure of off-roading. Just boarding this huge baby is exciting and wait till you see where it takes you. This tour is all about the vehicle and the guide.

This vehicle will take you first to a barren valley called Barkárdalur, where your driver/guide will take a rough 4x4 trail to an old farmer's turf house called Baugasel. This was the last occupied farm in the valley and was a working farm until it was abandoned in 1965. While you enjoy the peace and quiet, imagine what life was like in this valley as one by one farmers left for urban life. Remember, we said this is about the vehicle and the guide, after all, your guide drove you through a river on your way here and also showed you a hidden waterfall. But that isn't all, as he is knowledgeable about the area and life here in and around Akureyri. Local history is fascinating as you learn about the different Nordic people who found their way to Iceland.

Your return to Akureyri is by another route that takes you to a traditional Icelandic countryside church built in 1867 in the town of Möðruvellir. It may be open so you can see the interior but, if not, your guide will paint the image for you.
