Situated in the south of France, Bordeaux is a world renowned purveyor of wine, but really Bordeaux is much more than just wine! Half of the city is a UNESCO World Heritage site, making Bordeaux the largest urban site with this distinction in the world.
With our expert local guide, you will see the famous historic sites that make this neoclassical city a must visit on many traveler's bucket lists. The history of Bordeaux is that of fusion of past and present. Bordeaux was one of the first cities in France to "urbanize," so to say, and to conduct large scale metropolitan projects. Under King Louis XV, Bordeaux in the 18th century was ahead of it's time.
After a city tour of Bordeaux, we will hit the back roads to see the rolling countryside known to the south of France. Saint Emilion is our destination and this village really is awe-inspiring. Romanesque churches stand in ruin along narrow streets. St. Emilion today is known for full bodied red wine and that is what you will enjoy on our last stop to a classified winery of this region. Wine growth here dates back all the way to the 2nd century and was started by the Romans. It is no wonder these wines taste so good - some of these wineries have had nearly two millenniums of practice!
