WALKING TOUR OF ISTANBUL'S BAZAARS & MARKETS
WALKING TOUR OF ISTANBUL'S BAZAARS & MARKETS
ShoreTrips says...
After disembarking your ship, you will meet up with your guide in front of the Istanbul port passenger terminal. From there, it is only a short walk to the tram, which you will board for a short 10-minute ride to the Old City.
We'll start out this tour by going across the Galata Bridge to the Egyptian Bazaar (also called the Spice Market). Walk around and explore inside the bazaar, where you'll enjoy lots of shops selling dried fruits, nuts, teas, spices, and natural remedies. We'll also walk around the outside area of the bazaar with lots of local food vendors. Also, shop the New Mosque (Yeni Cami), where you can find products such as seeds, gardening supplies, and even caged birds!
Afterwards, we'll see the Rüstem Pasha Mosque, renowned for its incredible architecture, and the Mahmutpasa Markets (Tahtakale market district), which will be a very authentic experience, as few tourists visit these parts.
One of our final stops will be the well-known Grand Bazaar with over 5,000 shops and stands. Shop for exotic fabrics, clothing, furniture, and jewelry, or simply browse this fascinating market. This walk will be a cultural experience!
After the Grand Bazaar, we'll conclude the tour at Çemberlitas, or the Hooped Column of Constantine. This column served as the centerpiece in the Forum of Constantine, to celebrate and honor the designation of Constantinople as the new capital of the Roman Empire.
Walking tours are a great way for visitors to see more and witness the local culture. This tour will take you not only to the touristy bazaars, but also to local markets where middle class people shop. Witness the culture firsthand, while getting a chance to shop with local people for anything you can imagine.
