ShoreTrips says...

The first thing that comes to mind when you think of Iceland is probably not food. But then again, why not? Even in this land of hot springs and lava fields, everybody has to eat. Long, dark winters have given Icelanders plenty of time to perfect their culinary skills and they are anxious to tantalize your taste buds with their best recipes.

This tour runs the gamut, from markets to food stalls to fine dining. With 15 different foods to sample, you might want to skip breakfast!

Local farms provide milk for Skyr, a delightful mild yogurt for which Iceland is known. The meat is local too and talented chefs have each created their own version of the dish perhaps most associated with Iceland, lamb soup. Your knowledgeable guide will steer you to the best place in town to partake of this classic comfort food.

With ice-cold waters surrounding Iceland, fresh, delicate seafood is always in season. Savor the lobster soup. It is not to be missed and will warm you from your head to your toes. The culinary adventurous in your group might decide to sample these Icelandic delicacies: lava bread, smoked puffin, dried fish and fermented shark.

If you're lucky enough to take this tour on a weekend, you'll also visit the wonderful food stalls at the Reykjavik Flea Market!

We're just getting started. There are many more stops and tasty surprises in store, including Iceland's unique hot dog, so "relish" each and every bite!

When you’re on a food tour, remember to pace yourself and keep an open mind, especially when offered the fermented shark. But don’t worry, you won’t be forced to try it!
