SNORKEL BETWEEN TECTONIC PLATES

SNORKEL BETWEEN TECTONIC PLATES
When in Iceland, there is no shortage of adventure and the Silfra snorkel experience is at the top of any adrenaline junkie's list. After all, where else in the world can you snorkel between two tectonic plates? Nowhere.
Located in Thingvellir National Park (Þingvellir), this natural wonder is caused by the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates moving approximately 2 centimeters further in opposite directions every year. The rift is filled with Langjökull glacier water, which is filtered through lava fields for decades, purified and then enters Silfra from the ground up. This process yields some of the clearest water in the world! In fact, the water is so pure you can actually drink it. Nothing tastes quite as refreshing as crystal clear glacial water!
With pristine visibility, a dive in the water will reveal a vivid spectrum of colors - every shade of blue and green you can imagine, along with exotic underwater fissure.
A choice between using a wetsuit and dry suit will allow you either more adventure, or more comfort. You'll also have the option to rent a GoPro to use while you snorkel, and a memory card to bring home.

• You will have the option of renting a GoPro to use while you snorkel. If you choose this option, you will be able to bring the SD card home with you.
• We recommend bringing a towel.
• You must be comfortable in the water and have previous snorkeling experience.
• You will have a choice between a wetsuit and a drysuit. If you choose a wetsuit, please bring a swimsuit to wear underneath. You will get wet, and the water will be cold. Choosing a wetsuit allows you to swim more freely to explore the natural wonder up close. Your body heat will heat up water that leaks through the suit fairly quickly. If you select a drysuit, you can wear normal clothing underneath the suit, but we do recommend that you wear long sleeves and warm socks. We recommend wearing fleece, thin wool, or a sweat suit. Do not wear jeans. The drysuit will keep you warm, but you will not be able to move as freely and will float on the surface.
