POMPEII, SORRENTO AND CAPRI

POMPEII, SORRENTO AND CAPRI
ShoreTrips says...
Although all three of these spots are delicious, you must be advised that you may feel rushed and yearning more time in each location. We always prefer that you focus on your preferred interest in your selection of your tour, BUT, if you must see all 3, heed this warning and enjoy.
Upon arrival in Pompeii, your private, local, licensed guide will take you on a fascinating two-hour tour through this amazing place. Once a thriving empire, the city of Pompeii had about 20,000 inhabitants in 79 AD, when it was completely covered in 30 feet of volcanic ash by the deadly eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Listen to your guide as he tells you the history of the city as you take in the baths, villas, theaters, and wrestling grounds.
Before you know it, you will be back to Sorrento, where you will meet up with your Capri guide and catch the mid-day hydrofoil to the island. When you disembark the hydrofoil, your time on this magical island will begin.
Take the funicular up to Capri Town and La Piazzetta, lined with wonderful old and new buildings, sidewalk cafes, and, of course, shops! Decide if you would like to visit the Gardens of Caesar Augustus or the Punta Tragara, both very easy walks, or, if you prefer something a little more challenging, head up to the Villa Jovis to visit the ruins of Tiberius' most important imperial villa.
Afterwards, you may choose to visit Anacapri, where you can pick between two adventures. For those unafraid of heights, a chair lift may be the absolute highlight of your day. It takes about 20 minutes to reach the top in single chairs silently gliding through the sky with the amazing vista below of the bluest Mediterranean seas and the whitest, highest cliffs with colourful houses perched in the most impossible places.
The second option takes you to Villa San Michele, the charming former home of Swedish doctor and philanthropist Axel Munthe (1857-1949) that Henry James called "the most fantastic beauty, poetry, and inutility that one had ever seen clustered together." The villa is set around Roman-style courtyards, marble walkways, and atriums. Medieval choir stalls, Renaissance lecterns, and gilded statues of saints are all part of the setting, with some rooms preserving the doctor's personal memorabilia. A spectacular pergola path overlooking the entire Bay of Naples leads from the villa to the famous Sphinx Parapet, where an ancient Egyptian sphinx looks out toward Sorrento.
Either way, you will most certainly not want to leave when your time here is up, but don't miss the hydrofoil that will return you to Sorrento and your cruise ship!

Transfer / Meeting Instructions
Taxi and Transfers Required Specific pick up or taxi instructions will appear on your voucher after you purchase your trip.Special Instructions
• The first portion of this trip is with a great English-speaking driver. In Pompeii and Capri, you will tour with private, local, licensed guides.
• Food, beverages, and gratuities are not included in the price of this tour, nor is the 15€ per person entrance fee to Pompeii.
This tour does not include the price of the hydrofoils or transportation on the island of Capri. Your English-speaking driver will drop you off in Sorrento, where you will meet up with your guide for Capri. Along with your guide, you will take the hydrofoil from Sorrento to Capri (20 minutes). When your time in Capri is over, you will take the hydrofoil from Capri back to Sorrento. The price will be about 12€ ($14) per person each way.
• The cost of a one-way ticket on the funicular is 1.30€ per person.
Restrictions
• It is also true that the funicular becomes very busy at the end of the day with many rushing back to Sorrento, so, again, we recommend that you leave in plenty of time. If you find that there is a long line at the funicular as you leave the island, we suggest you take a taxi. Even if you have a pre-purchased ticket (which you can sell to someone in line), it is worth avoiding the line to ensure your spot on the hydrofoil.
• We have found that there may be a rare occurrence of a port change from Sorrento to Naples. Naples is accessible to the same sightseeing as Sorrento, but is a slightly longer ride. This port requires an increase in cost as the distance from these highlights is further. Your guide will be waiting for you as you disembark. You may have an adjustment to your tour itinerary depending on your exit time, but be assured that your knowledgeable driver will direct you to a satisfying day. This change is an exception to our policy that ship changes will result in a refund. We feel this is in the best interest of the traveler due to the disappointment we have received when the tour is cancelled instead. There will be an additional charge of $100 for the extra mileage. We apologize for your difficult day, but promise that the sun will shine as soon as you meet your driver.
• Pompeii is closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25.
