ShoreTrips says...

The French Quarter is The Crown Jewel of New Orleans, and one of its most historic neighborhoods!

This two hour walking tour, led by a highly trained historian tour guide, is an essential introduction to New Orlean's incredible history.

The French Quarter serves as the center of New Orleans' rich culture and history, with its boundaries defining the original city, founded in 1718. It is the city's heart, famous for its vibrant nightlife and colorful buildings with cast-iron balconies. Crowd-pleasing Bourbon Street features jazz clubs, Cajun eateries and raucous bars.

This tour will delve into the origins of New Orleans as the colonial capital of French Louisiana. The French Quarter has been home to many colorful inhabitants, and in its beginning was first settled with Paris' most notorious prison outcasts before the addition of European aristocrats. You will learn the authentic history of world famous pirates, voodoo, creole culture, renowned cuisine, and European architecture.

After a break, the tour will now move on to St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, the oldest above ground cemetery in New Orleans dating back to 1789, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The cemetery spans just one square block but is the final resting place of many thousands. You wil learn about the the inhabitants in the creepy crypts, and the names of some of its most famous citizens including Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, black activist Homer Plessy, and French Creole Nobleman Bernard de Marigny.
