ShoreTrips says...

ShoreTrips' PREMIUM Shared Van Tours are a perfect choice if you are looking for a deluxe tour that's economical, but without the crowds of a big bus.

We'll begin this panoramic island tour with a drive to Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park. Here, black lava stands in contrast to white sand beaches and provides the setting for our exploration of Hawaiian cultural history, archaeology, petroglyphs, ancient fish ponds, and sacred temples. You're likely to spot some wildlife here as well. Keep an eye out for local birds and that most famous and well-loved Hawaiian reptile, the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle. You can reach the turtles by either a 30-40 minute trail walk or the more leisurely 10-minute stroll.

From a small fishing village, Kona has evolved into a historic seaside town. Going south toward South Kona and Captain Cook Village, we will stop at St. Benedict's Church, also known as the Painted Church. This unique testament to creativity and faith was erected in 1899 by Father John Velghe, who set out to beautify his church's walls and ceilings with religious images using ordinary house paint.

Kona's volcanic slopes provide the perfect climate for growing coffee beans. At Kona Coffee, we'll learn about the growing, roasting, harvesting, and packaging process and taste a sample of their delicious eye-opening product. While here, we'll visit a lava tube and if you wish, take a walk through to do a little exploring.

At this point, you choose what happens next. Not everyone has to make the same choice, which is what makes this tour so great. Select Option #1, snorkeling at Turtle beach, Option #2, shopping your way down Alii Drive, Option #3, visiting a Kona Brew Pub or Option #4 returning to the ship. The day is yours for the taking!
