2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic, and while the tragedy occurred far from Halifax, the city has become forever linked with the disaster, as this was the base for retrieval efforts. Halifax is the largest single resting place in the world for those who perished aboard the Titanic.

We’ll explore the many Titanic connections in the historic streets of Halifax, including the former location of the White Star line office, the death wharf where the retrieval ships set sail, the stately churches where the funerals and memorial services were held, the millionaire mansion of Halifax native George Wright, and the former funeral home (now a pub!) for first class passengers such as John Jacob Astor and Isidor Straus--two of the wealthiest men in the world-- who were denied permission to enter a lifeboat.

We’ll visit Fairview Lawn cemetery to pay our respects at the gravesites that have drawn visitors from around the world, you’ll learn who the unknown child really is, see the grave of James Dawson (who some say inspired the character of Jack Dawson in James Cameron’s Titanic), and hear the moving story of Alma Paulson and her four children. We’ll relate the little-known story about the “unsinkable” Molly Brown’s 1920 visit to the cemetery, and inspirational tales of the heroic actions of crew, orchestra members, and passengers from every walk of life.

Leaving Halifax, you'll enjoy a 45-minute drive along the scenic coastal route to Peggy's Cove. You'll stop at one of Canada's most visited places, Peggy's Point Lighthouse, which is perched on the edge of the ocean. The quaint, active fishing village attracts thousands of tourists each year.
