ShoreTrips says...

This is one of those 'get out of town' locations, where the beauty is found in the less populated areas.

Stonehammer, the first geopark in North America, is one of New Brunswick's most beloved treasures. Home to the birthplace of the Atlantic Ocean, the site where continents collided and took shape, and of some beautifully-preserved geological formations, it would be an understatement to say that Stonehammer Geopark is full of marvels.

This guided eco-tour will take you to one section of the Stonehammer Geopark - Rockwood Park, where you will take a stroll along Confederation Trail, established in 2000 to commemorate the Canadian Confederation. To build the trail, each Province and Territory sent a two-ton rock to be used as a monument to its local ecosystem. Together, they let you take a trip across Canada. As you walk around Fisher Lakes, your guide will point out features from the rocks dotting your path, including New Brunswick’s ornate contribution to the park.

You will also be given the option do some moderate rock-climbing on lava formed 554 million years ago, with instruction from your trained guide. No previous experience is necessary for this portion and your guide, trained in belaying, a simple process of holding the rope and the climber for safety purposes. For those who prefer to stay on the ground, there are hiking and walking trails to entertain you while others climb.

Your trip will conclude with a Stonehammer Geopark-themed lunch at Lily Lake Pavilion. The menu features a hearty bowl of Cambrian Crustacean Chowder and Hot Rock & Rolls, ending with a Continental Collide Dessert.
