HISTORIC NEW YORK CITY WALKING TOUR

HISTORIC NEW YORK CITY WALKING TOUR
Staring up at the skyscrapers of Manhattan it's hard to imagine it began as a small Dutch settlement. Of course, that was back in 1653, so it's had some time to grow. Your local tour guide is a font of historical knowledge on early Manhattan and will regale you with stories of its humble beginnings, through its progress as the nation's capitol and its evolution into the financial capital of the world that it is today. You'll learn about the various ethnic groups that contributed to the city's culture and the "movers and shakers" who were instrumental to Manhattan's meteoric rise.
While visiting the financial district, it's only fitting that you pay a visit to the iconic Wall Street Charging Bull. Other stops along the route include the spot where George Washington was inaugurated and Battery Park, which, during the 17th century contained a "battery" to defend the town from seaward attacks. Before Ellis Island became the processing location for immigrants, that duty originated at Battery Park. St. Paul's Chapel, the oldest remaining church in New York City was built in 1766 and withstood the 9/11 attacks, giving it the name "The Little Church That Stood". Another church along the tour is Trinity Church, a thriving Episcopal congregation with a long and fascinating past.
Your tour guide will provide you with this and much more about the history, the people and the sites of this fascinating city.
