ShoreTrips says...

This is a 'cool' way to begin or end your Alaskan vacation. Without depending on weather or helicopters, you can see and stroll on your glacier.

North of Anchorage is the Matanuska Glacier. What a great way to begin or end your Alaskan journey, as you can enjoy the many incredible features like the glacial blue meltwater pools of clear water. This frozen glacier is 27 miles long, a river of ancient ice. It is thousands of years old and still a massive glacier tucked up into the head of the Matanuska Valley. For 2 hours, you and your glacier guide will explore this special piece of ice and learn how it was born and how it has shaped the Matanuska Susitna Valley. We will view ice formations and crevasses, with all necessary safety equipment.

Because walking on ice is inherently dangerous, we will prepare you with a helmet, a walking stick and spikes that attach to your shoes. Please wear sturdy hiking boots, and know that your footwear may be covered in mud before the tour is over. We recommend bringing dry shoes and socks for the drive back to Anchorage.

You will be walking a comfortable pace for the 2 hours on the glacier. During your time with your guide, you will share the intimate facts about glaciers and living in Alaska that only a local will know.
