One surprising thing about Alaska is that many of the activities that we offer here are also offered in the Caribbean. Jeep tours, fishing expeditions (for different species of fish, of course!) and kayaking are available in both locations. However, we have never seen these large canoes before and they are really fun!

Your adventure begins with a scenic ride to a secluded mountain lake, where you'll board a 37- foot, 20-passenger canoe which is fast, stable, and easy to maneuver. You'll paddle under the direction of an experienced guide, scan the shore for wildlife, and learn about the history of the Ketchikan area. The lake, part of a lush rain forest, is ideal for canoeing and is surrounded by the Tongass, the largest national forest in the United States.

Once you've built up an appetite, we'll stop ashore for a native-style snack, including smoked salmon, clam chowder, rolls with wild berry jam, and beverages. A knowledgeable guide will highlight the flora and fauna of the rainforest before we paddle back to the canoe dock and you reboard your transportation for the return to the cruise ship pier.

This adventure is a rare opportunity to comfortably explore Southeast Alaska in the manner of its original settlers.
