ShoreTrips says...

From snow-capped mountains to old-growth forests, from mighty waterfalls to sub-alpine meadows, Mt. Rainier National Park is a place of superlatives. Experience it for yourself!

This special day begins with a pickup at the cruise ship pier or your Seattle area hotel in a comfortable, spacious touring van. The 2-hour ride to Mt. Rainier National Park will pass quickly as you enjoy the rustic farmland and lowland old growth forest along the way. If the day is clear, you will periodically be able to see your destination, Mt. Rainier, as you approach the park. During the drive, your guide will share information about the park itself as well as the area's natural history to put your visit to Mt. Rainier in a broader context of the Pacific Northwest's geologic past.

Soon the road begins to climb and the magnificent glacier-topped Mt. Rainier, towering above at more than 14,000 feet, comes into view. You'll stop to stretch your legs and breathe in the deep, earthy scent of old growth forests. Crane your neck at towering trees that have stood the test of time for more than 800 years. Feel the power of plunging waterfalls, produced by glacial melt, heavy with silt.

The hikes are all rated as "easy" so you can focus your attention on the natural beauty surrounding you. Your guide will choose the hikes based on the time of year, as each season holds its own special beauty. Early spring tours will still feel a bit of winter's bite. Summer brings walks through fields of meadows, bursting with wildflowers, and Mother Nature puts on her best fall colors from mid-September through mid-October.

A short, invigorating hike brings you to some of the mountain's more than 25 major glaciers, most than any other peak in the Continental US. Your guide will provide information on glacial formation, their role in changing the landscape and the mountain's own unique climate. Upon reaching the highest elevation, somewhere around 5,000 feet, you'll feel on top of the world, overwhelmed by the panorama before you.

By now, you'll be ready for lunch and your guide will set out a delicious, catered lunch. You'll have a choice of entree, along with a side of vegetables, green salad, bread and butter, dessert, and a choice of teas and coffee, all served amidst the splendor of Mt. Rainier.

After 6 glorious hours in the park, it will be time to make your way back to Seattle. During the drive, you'll stop to buy coffee or some handmade ice cream. Go on, indulge. You've earned it!

You will be dropped off back at your hotel, cruise ship or Sea-Tac, for those with evening flights.
