What can be more comfortable than enjoying the beautiful scenery of Skagway and the White Pass by your own private vehicle.

Explore the Klondike Highway on this two hour round trip journey into the hills of Alaska and British Columbia. Hear the stories of the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 as you make your way through the city of Skagway and following the path of White Pass Trail. See the same sights and experience the terrain of those gold seekers as they made their way into the Yukon.

From the comfort of your private vehicle, soak in the snow capped mountains with the beauty and wilderness that rises all around you. The mountain glaciers and waterfalls set the scene as you imagine goldminers from days gone by trekking around here on foot.

After we make our way back towards the city, we will stop at the Skagway city overlook and continue heading west now to the original town of Dyea, that was built from nothing more than word that gold was found in the hills. Today, you will see what is left of the town of Dyea. Long before the goldrush, Alaskan Natives used seasonal fishing camp and traded with other tribes along the Chilkoot Trail. In 1897, this area would never be the same as news broke out that gold was discovered in the Yukon Territory. Prospectors flooded the Dyea valley and the Chilkoot Trail was used by many to head to the gold fields.

What seemed like overnight, businesses popped up in Dyea and life for the Alaskan Natives would forever change. As quickly as this city of Dyea grew, it was abandoned by the completion of the railway in Skagway, and the declining interest in the gold rush that never came to be.

Today the land in this valley has grown over with natural foliage and the National Park Service purchased much of this land in 1978. There are only a few remaining traces can be seen of the gold rush era. See how the Dyea Tidal Flats and the Taiya river has transformed the landscape over time. Take a step back in time and learn about life pre and post-gold rush era and discover the fascinating history and subtle beauty of Dyea.

Along the way, there will be ample opportunities to view and photograph the waterfalls, majestic mountains, glaciers, historic sites, and the pristine beauty of Alaska!
