ShoreTrips says...

Arica is the northernmost port and town of this long country. Called the "city of eternal spring" due to its balanced and pleasant climate, it is also a main transit port for goods going to and coming from Bolivia. The Azapa and Lluta valleys provide early fruits and vegetables not only for the local population, but also to the rest of Chile.

The city of Arica lies at the beginning of the Azapa valley, a green oasis in the middle of the desert that produces all kinds of tropical fruits and vegetables. Visit the San Miguel Museum, which houses a fine collection of pre-Columbian artifacts and the Chinchorro mummies, preserved by the desert sand. Dating back to 5000 BC, they are the oldest conserved mummies in the world.

Your next stop is the El Morro, a rocky mountain top overlooking the city. You'll also visit the San Marco church, built in 1876 in Gothic style that presides over Colon Square. San Marco church was made by the famous Gustave Eiffel et Cie. Workshops, prefabricated in iron with a beautiful wooden door. This church replaced the original, swept away by a tidal wave in 1869.

Finally, you'll visit the Fishing Wharf, where you can smell the local scenery! Behind the wharf, you can see some of the wildlife that is native to the area, such as sea wolves and pelicans.
