What better way to a person's heart and soul than through food? And there is nothing more interesting than learning how to make classic dishes in another country. This is not a cooking class in the standard manner, but more of an experience where you will meet and dine with people from all over the world.

You will have a team of food guides who will take you on your journey and help you with the touches you will need to make in order to satisfy your taste buds. Though the gourmet fillings for your empanada will be made in advance, you will create your dream pie by learning the traditional "repulge," the braiding technique used to fold the dough.

While tasting your creations, you will also enjoy some grilled provoleta cheese, along with some sliced chorizo sausage and homemade chimichurri.

The above are just a sampling of what is coming. Argentina is known for its steak houses and you can watch while your steak is cooked to order. The reason that Argentine steaks are so special is due to a unique 24-hour preparation method, which you will learn about. The Argentines also claim that their cows exercise, eat only grass, and are butchered in a way that creates a more tender cut of meat. Whatever the reason, your delicious steak will be plated with potatoes and local seasonal vegetables.

Your dinner will be accompanied by some of the famous Argentine wines we have been treated to recently in the US. Enjoy two special Malbecs from boutique wineries in Mendoza, which have been paired to enhance your dinner. If you prefer white wine, it is available upon request.

After dinner, you will be put to work again, as you will be making your own alfajores, a national sweet in Argentina. It is a melding of biscuits, dulce de leche, melted chocolate fondue, and coconut flakes. Mixed together, it is heaven!

While licking your fingers, you will learn about the South American culture of mate, a traditional South American caffeine-rich infused drink, particularly in Argentina. More than a drink, it is a way of life. Using a gourd as the vessel, and a metal straw, it is made from yerba mate leaves that have been ground into a powder. Your guides will share the history and etiquette of the beverage, and you will learn how to make it, even if you are chicken and choose not to try it.

Thus stimulated, you will be able to take the memory of Argentine cooking home with you!
