GUAYAQUIL CITY TOUR WITH MUSEUM VISIT
ShoreTrips says...
Located on the western banks of the Río Guayas, Guayaquil is Ecuador's largest city, the country's chief seaport, and industrial and commercial center. This city tour will introduce you to the most interesting parts of the city, plus the municipal museum.
Depart from the cruises ship pier and drive down Julio Ave, passing Barrio Centenario, the most traditional residential area of Guayaquil. At Plaza de Las Iguanas you will see "the cathedral" which was originally built in 1547 out of wood before being destroyed by a city fire in 1896. Only the small quarter Las Penas, in the north of the city, was preserved and is now the oldest and last picturesque vestige of the colonial Guayaquil.
Your next stop will be the Malecón 2000. Drive along the border of the Río Guayas, and appreciate this beautiful ocean walk and drive. See the City Hall, the Clock Tower (constructed in Moorish style), and walk towards "La Rotonda," the monument of Simón Bolívar and San Martín, the heroes of South America. Enjoy the view of Las Peñas district, the oldest in town and the last picturesque vestige of the colonial Guayaquil. Today it is the home to many artists, and contains a small open-air exhibition of paintings and sculptures every day.
Your final stop will be the new anthropological museum where you will learn about the different cultures that have lived in Ecuador over hundreds of years.
Afterwards, you will be transferred back to the cruise ship pier.
