ShoreTrips says...

This port of call will be a surprised. Its sophistication is unexpected and there is something to see throughout the drive that you won't anticipate. We did this ourselves and had a splendid day seeing the regular sights and then moving on to the countryside.

One nice thing about arriving into Punta del Este is that you come right into the area where it's 'happening'. The experience begins immediately as you drive through the most scenic and prosperous parts of the city, These fashionable neighborhoods might surprise you as you ride through the impressive areas of Cantegril, San Rafael, and Parque Golf. As you reach the area known as La Barra de Maldonado, you will see the unique hanging bridges, which you will cross in a short while.

Make a stop at Ralli Museum of Contemporary Art with its fine collection of paintings and sculptures by noted Latin American artists, as well as several pieces by Salvador Dali on permanent display. The attractive modern building is located in the Beverly Hills district and contains a portion of the art collection of Mr. Harry Recanati, who decided to make his private collection available to the public by creating the Ralli Museums. This location is one of three he created.

Continuing on, you will see some surprises. Soon, to your right, you will pass the beach area where La Mano, The Hand, is buried in the sand. It is a popular landmark now created by Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal and depicts five human fingers partially emerging from the sand. Irarrázabal's work can be found around the world and it is so special to come across it here, in an area that you might have thought would be so different than the sophisticated playground for the Uruguayans and others around South America.

Your drive will next take you past some of Punta’s natural wonders – its beaches. Stop at Punta Ballena for sweeping views up and down the coast, before taking a leisurely ride into the countryside which will bring you to Ballena Winery. Here, from your elevated perch, you will relax and taste some of the best wines in the area.
Your return to the port will take you along the picturesque coastal road but not before stopping for lunch. There are different directions you might choose: an architectural wonder with outside dining overlooking the vineyards for example or a chic beach club, perhaps in José Ignacio, where you will sit among the locals dining on the best.

We do not include the cost of the tasting nor the lunch, which gives you the flexibility to choose according to the moment. But there are some beautiful properties and the food is wonderful so spending more time relaxing and tasting wine and/or food will make your day special.

Heading back to your hotel or the port will be sad, knowing that this incredible day is coming to an end.
