WEST COAST HALF DAY TOUR

WEST COAST HALF DAY TOUR
ShoreTrips says...
Pinch yourself...yes you really are in paradise!! Along with tropical breezes, brilliant blue water, and swaying palms, this tour will introduce you to the rich history and culture of Tahiti, including the island's people.
With your friendly, local guide in the lead, you'll head south out of town to explore the delightful coast road. With the beauty of the turquoise lagoon and local fishermen selling their catch on one side and rugged volcanic landscapes covered in lush vegetation on the other, there's no question you're in for a wonderful tour.
Discover ancient Polynesian culture with a visit to the Marae of Arahuruhu, a temple or meeting place that was common throughout Polynesia during ancient times. Set against a beautiful backdrop, the only marae in Tahiti been fully restored to help you appreciate the values and lifestyle of the Tahitian people and the ceremonies that took place here. Nearby, the stunning fern Caves of Maraa are a local treasure and the place where French Post-impressionist artist Paul Gauguin swam in the cool fresh waters with the local population during his 3 years as a resident of Tahiti.
Breathtaking scenery awaits at the Water Gardens of Vaipahi. This tranquil spot invites you to stroll the grounds, allowing you to enjoy the more than 70 varieties of local vegetation as well as a picturesque waterfall flowing into Lake Vaihiria.
Continuing on, a volcanic black sand beach along Matavai Bay is the perfect spot to wander along the shore while capturing photos of the spectacular scenery and the many surfers "catching a wave".
A stop at the Monoi Coconut oil factory will enlighten you to all the ways this fragrant elixir made by steeping the petals of Tahitian gardenias in coconut oil can enhance your health and well-being. It comes highly recommended by Tahitians who have been using it for centuries.
You'll visit one of the prettiest churches on the island as well as the local town hall, built in traditional colonial style. These locations will allow you to encounter the local population as they go about their daily lives. If the blue-eyed river eels are game, feeding them over the bridge in Paea is a fun and unique activity.
Fantastic scenery, cultural experiences and interesting history. Tahiti's west coast has it all.
