ShoreTrips says...

Only someone passionate about their home and their culture could design an experience such as this.

There is no better way to really understand a place and a people than to see how they live. This excellent tour will do that by actually bring you into some of the finer homes in Kona so you can see what the lifestyle is like in paradise!

Beyond the tourist sites--in between the restaurants and cafes, around the corner from the shops and the luaus--lies the life that attracts people to Hawaii. Your guide is a passionate local and has designed an experience that will direct you to several private homes and gardens. It may even convince you to move here! Expect more than a glimpse of island life as the variety of residences will include the Mauka (mountain side), as well as the Makai, (ocean side), which are in complete contrast to each other. The homes will range from modest, local farms to luxury residences. You will not see any Hawaiian grass shacks.

Your three Big Island stops are carefully selected to offer you a real taste of the life here, and speaking of tastes, you will be partaking of a Hawaiian-style progressive island brunch at each of your stops. At each location, one delicious course will be served, showcasing fresh and local ingredients. As you enjoy each one, you will hear stories and some history about life here on the Big Island and about Hawaii in general. In such a casual setting, conversation easily flows and you can expect interesting local trivia and personal tales that may turn you into a kuloko--a local--yourself!

During your three-course brunch, you will experience a fresh Hawaiian fruit sampling. Fresh breakfast breads, Portuguese sausage, Kona coffee, seasonal local fruit, and fresh squeezed guava juice will start your day. Moving on, expect an organic green salad with fresh pineapple, fried wontons and sesame vinaigrette, along with chicken macadamia nut salad in papaya, Kona chips, and a special green iced tea with Lilikoi, passion fruit. And lastly, you will be tempted by an array of island desserts like Lilikoi mousse, coconut with candied ginger macaroons, and pineapple and banana Hawaiian sweet bread pudding--yum!
