ShoreTrips says...

For some, viewing the art collections delivers the message of the past and the present as well as anything. We found both these collections worth viewing.

Our first stop will be in Lower Town, where we'll walk to St. Nicholas' Church-Museum. The exposition of ecclesiastical art from the Medieval and Early Modern periods presented here is the most significant and extensive collection of church art in Estonia.

The Gothic architecture of the church lends itself to be a showcase for the city's treasures. Pieces dating from the 13th century are housed here, including its most famous work, the eerie Dance Macabre by Berndt Notke from the 15th century. Other artifacts include baroque chandeliers, 15th century altars, and the silver chamber.

After exploring this fascinating museum, we'll depart and travel outside the ancient walls to the new KUMU, a futuristic building which is in total contrast to our first stop. This museum is home to over 60,000 works by Estonians, as well as foreign artists. It was opened in 2006 and contains the largest art collection in the Baltic.

The setting alone is lovely and unusual for Tallinn, as you will see during your ride.

Your guide will have an expertise in the KUMU Museum, as well as the St. Nicholas.
