ShoreTrips says...

We know you. You’re actually quite a bit like us. You’re that “different” kind of traveler who gets a kick out of untraditional, eccentric excursions. You’re the type who likes the natural un-posed photos over the synthetic “cheese!” ones, right? If so, then this excursion is for you!

Set out on this exciting anthropological excursion packed with culture, education, and nature... giving you a break from the usual sightseeing and beach-going activities!

You'll find out lots of things about Grenada, from how it got its nickname of "Spice Isle" to the West African influences on rituals practiced here today to learning about its native people. Your guide will fill you in on the many Grenadine traditions inherited from South American Indians, as well as African and European settlers.

You'll start with a walk through the Sendall Tunnel to the Grenada National Museum, where Amerindian artifacts are displayed. Following your educational introduction, we'll drive to the environs of the Stadium to see the sharpening stone before continuing along the west coast to see the petroglyphs at Duquense and Victoria, and then on to Mt. Ritch to view the stones there. Next, we'll stop at Belmont Estate to visit their chocolate shop before driving on to Pearls, and a return through Grand Etang.

We'll go to nearly all the rock art sites on Grenada, such as Mt. Ritch, Victoria, Duquense Bay, Grand Etang Forest Reserve, Queen's Park, and St. George's, which are situated in beautiful natural areas all around the island and are incredible to see in person.

Rock art is a fascinating form of artistic expression that started thousands of years ago. Humans engraved, etched, painted, pecked, or otherwise physically changed the faces of the walls in caves and on rocks. This is real art in nature. As you’re viewing the art with your guide, don’t be surprised if his commentary helps you to evoke images of the rituals that took place at such sites!

Grenada is wonderfully wild and gorgeously green--a special place where Mother Nature rules. You'll swear that Tarzan will come swinging down from the vines at any moment!

We'll take a scenic drive with the windows rolled down (if you choose) and the cool ocean breeze on your face. As we pass through small towns, local people will offer you traditional foods like coconuts and grilled goodies. Your guide will assist you in declining and/or purchasing, if you desire.

You'll be sure to walk away from this tour with gorgeous photos. In fact, some past participants have enlarged their pictures from this trip and framed them as original artwork in their homes!
