UNDERWATER SCULPTURE PARK SNORKEL AND POWERBOAT ADVENTURE

UNDERWATER SCULPTURE PARK SNORKEL AND POWERBOAT ADVENTURE
ShoreTrips says...
The owner of this company has played an integral part in the establishment of the Moliniere Underwater Sculpture Park. Both he and his crew are involved in the develpment and maintenance of the park and are strongly committed to marine life preservation. Their passion and enthusiasm will be apparent as they discuss their island and this fascinating environmental art project.
Your adventure begins on a custom-built rigid-hulled inflatable powerboat, specially designed for fast but safe sightseeing and snorkeling. This amazing boat is light and agile, yet provides a dry, smooth and very fun ride. Every seat offers great views as you dash from bay to bay along Grenada's protected west coast. For a closer look, your captain will slow down and drift in the bays as your guide fills you in on the interesting history, geography and ecology of the island.
Upon arrival at the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, you'll hear how the significant damage inflicted on the reefs by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 became the impetus for this brilliant, creative project. In 2007, the first sculptures by British artist Jason De Caires Taylor were carefully placed between coral reefs. Since then, the number of sculptures has grown to include the works of renowned Swedish sculptor Lene Kilde and local artists as well. Your guide will relate information on the cultural significance of many of these works of art as he guides you around the park during your snorkel.
Snorkelers will find it easy to explore this fascinating underwater realm and will be impressed by the sculpture's variety of subject matter, ranging from whimsical and fun to poignant and historical. Over the years, these artificial reefs have provided a base for marine life to proliferate, enhancing each unique sculpture with other-worldly beauty. Tropical fish and other sea life also find homes among the statues.
If you prefer not to snorkel, don't worry. Non-snorkelers are welcome to relax on board while your captain shows you photos of the underwater sculptures and marine life that the snorkelers are experiencing. You may also just swim at this site (without snorkeling).
After your memorable snorkel adventure, your guide will inform you about Grenada's active underwater volcano, its wildlife, such as monkeys and armadillos, whales, dolphins and Leatherback turtles that can weigh up to 2000lbs.
After a speedy blast back to land, you'll hear about Grenada's capital, St George's (voted the prettiest in the Caribbean), the buildings, the early European explorers who settled the island and learn about the link between Grenada, Italy and an amazing shipwreck.
