LOUISIANA'S VERY BEST SWAMP TOUR

LOUISIANA'S VERY BEST SWAMP TOUR
ShoreTrips says...
Whatever your vision of a swamp may be, this venture into the interior of the Nature Conservancy's first Louisiana Nature Preserve will bring you back 200 years. Your guide is actually a wetland ecologist and your personal tour is practically right in his backyard!
This incredible journey into the swamplands of Louisiana begins with a narrated one-hour drive to a charming respite at the edge of the marsh. The double-ended flat-bottom boats, some with canopies, will be ready when you arrive. Your experienced guide will lead you into the deeper, harder-to-reach small bayous and sloughs in the interior of the swamp. All of the guides are native to Louisiana and deliver non-commercialized explanations of Louisiana swamp ecology and natural history.
As you carefully make your way through the bog, you will see and hear the resident and migratory wildlife. Alligators abound, as well as bald eagles, nutria, mink, deer, black bear, raccoon, otter, beaver, and lots of birds and fish. There have even been sightings of the Florida cougar! Many species of exotic birds also make their home in this swamp, and an active bald eagle nest has occupied the swamp dating back to 1910!
Sit back and relax as you're overcome by the primitive beauty of the cypress trees rising from the water...the sweet smell of wild azaleas in the air...
All of the other swamp tours offered in New Orleans take you west of the city. This tour takes you east to a permanently protected wildlife area consisting of 70,000 acres.
