Now revived from the rubble of the Korean War, the locals like to call this 600-year old capital the 'miracle on the Han'. Seoul is in the process of restoration but that has not overshadowed its past, and there is a plan to reconnect the fortress wall remains, which snake over the mountains surrounding the city. These provide the escape from urban life so desperately needed with the congestion of traffic and people throughout the city. Regardless, it is apparent that the joys of eating, drinking, shopping, and general merriment are in abundance and Seoul has become more popular than ever in the last few years.

The traffic is always an issue here. The positive to that is you can observe life from the vehicle windows during your rides between sights. Included in your tour of the city is a stop at the Royal Palace where you will see the changing of the guard. This is an impressive ceremony that involves 50 participants dressed up as Joseonera soldiers and bandsman. Take some time during your visit to the Gyeongbok Palace to try on some costumes from the past.

Another area in Seoul that brings the past together with the present is Insadong Antique Alley. Here you can find and see some quirky things, such as the vendors making Dragon Beard candy from thousands of white strands of sugar. Best is listening to their voices that move to the beat of their hands. Souvenirs abound such as special Korean papers and scarves, crazy museums, and weirdly shaped ice cream. It is here you will visit a Cat Café.

One more stop is definite, the visit to the N Seoul Tower. Though you may think the N stands for north, it actually means 'new'. The tower opened in 1980 and has since become a major tourist attraction. The 236.7 meter tower sits atop Namsan Mountain which is almost 800 feet. The observatory offers panoramic views of Seoul and the surrounding areas.
