Kuala Lumpur is Malaysia's largest city and though relatively young, it has evolved from humble beginnings to a financial capital and the main gateway to the country. This may be your one visit to this city of mystery and there are things on the 'must-see' list that can be accomplished in a day's time without breaking a sweat. An interesting itinerary will break all your images of the past and bring you to the modern city that Kuala Lumpur has become.

The drive into Kuala Lumpur brings you into the center of the financial district where you cannot help but notice the towers high above you. The PETRONAS Twin Tower is a must - soaring to a height of 1350 feet - has 88 stories side by side. It is the jewel of the city and your entry begins with some informative displays that tell you the journey of its creation. Up you go but not all the way, at about 500 feet the elevator will leave you at the Skybridge, a connecting structure between the towers. This is the world's highest 2-story bridge which you can cross if you wish - or continue up to level 86. It is from here that you can see the story of Malaysia from above. Beautiful souvenirs are available at the gift shop, though it will be difficult to forget this visit!

Time for some fun and from the heights of town we will head to the most exciting Open Air Bazaar of Chinatown. This is a bargain hunter's paradise where you can find everything from herbs to goods, the best imitations around. But watch for some special local crafts such as shadow puppets, lovely ceramics, masks, silver belts, and tobacco boxes and a personal favorite, good luck charms! Hopefully you will have enough time to 'score' before dinner at a local restaurant.

Just one more stop before heading back to your ship but one that is necessary in the evening hours. Another tall structure, the Menara KL, lays claim to the tallest telecommunications tower in the world and the lift will bring you to a spot where you can see the city as it glows with multicolored lights. It will be a wonderful last memory of this day.
