THE BOROBUDUR TEMPLE

THE BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
ShoreTrips says...
You will find more than 500 Buddha statues throughout the temple. We won't ask you to find them all.
When you hear that something is a UNESCO World Heritage site, it generally peaks your interest in some regard. Sometimes they turn out to be an interesting couple sentences to read about, but not something you necessarily need to take a pilgrimage to for a firsthand experience. Well, we can promise you from the bottom of our hearts that the famous Borobudur Temple cannot be summed up with a few sentences of strong language. You have got to see it for yourself.
This incredible structure is the largest Buddhist Temple in the world and took more than 75 years to complete through gathering millions of volcanic and river stone blocks from nearby waterways. For hundreds of years, pilgrims would come to this site from all around Southeast Asia as a way to pay tribute to Mahayana Buddhism. As you climb to the top, each level represents a new realm of consciousness on your way to final enlightenment. This is truly something that can't be summed up in words!
Try imagining the amount of work that went into building this through the use of about 2 million stones lifted from local rivers and streams.
