ShoreTrips says...

Mt. Wellington, over 4,000' high, stands guard over the charming harbor town of Hobart. With a fascinating history and an up-and-coming attitude, Hobart is a wonderful place to explore.

Sit back in your luxury touring vehicle and enjoy a selection of tasty local treats as you and your guide get to know one another and discuss the day's events.

Your local Hobartian guide is an expert and will relate the city's interesting history, including that of the indigenous semi-nomadic peoples who lived here in pre-colonial times.

Present-day Hobart, the capital of Australia's island state of Tasmania, had its beginnings with the establishment of a British Penal Colony in 1803. As time went on, many of those former convicts proved to be hard-working and industrious men who opened businesses and became influential and prominent families whose names can still be found in the Hobart area.

As you stroll Salamanca Place, rows of former warehouses that have been converted into galleries, shops, and restaurants, your guide will make history come alive with tales of Hobart's early days.

You'll feel the sense of bygone times at nearby Battery Point. The guns that used to reside here were part of Hobart’s coastal defenses in the 1800s to protect the city against possible attacks from the French in Polynesia. Battery Point's narrow, winding streets are now dotted with charming, well-kept Colonial-era cottages, quaint cafes and corner pubs.

Stops at local markets and eclectic galleries will blend the past and the present and help you understand why Hobart is such a popular place to visit and live.
