FULL DAY IN FETHIYE WITH LUNCH
ShoreTrips says...
After meeting up with your official Turkish guide at the cruise ship pier, you will make your way into the Fethiye. Fethiye is rocky cliffs, pine-clad mountain ranges, and offshore islets that speak of ancient civilizations.
After boarding your mini bus, you'll enjoy a drive through the beautiful countryside of southwest Turkey. Upon reaching the village of Dalyan, you will take your private wooden boat (taka) and have an delightful cruise on Koycegiz Lake. You will cruise by the sulphur baths that are known as the Baths of Cleopatra. Tradition states that even the great Queen of Egypt bathed here to make her skin look more attractive.
Your first stop on the cruise will be at Iztuzu Beach. It is one of the last remaing breeding sites on the Mediterranean for the loggerhead, or Caretta Caretta sea turtle. The turtles come to lay their eggs once every year. You can enjoy cold refreshments at a cafe on this beach, surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the Mediterranean Sea.
Looking across to the opposite shore you will see spectacular cliff-top temple-tombs above the reeds. Your boat now takes you across the water to ancient Caunos, known for piracy in antiquity. The rock carved tombs of Lycian Kings date back to the 4 BC. After touring the ruins of Caunos, you will board your boat and sail on to your restaurant located on the shores of the lake for your (late, about 2:30 p.m.) lunch break. Later in the afternoon, you will return to Dalyan and board your motorcoach to lead your way back to Fethiye.
