ShoreTrips says...

Don't end your vacation when you end your cruise. This tour between Whittier and Anchorage is wonderfully informing and entertaining and a lovely finish to your trip.

Upon boarding, begin your adventure with a ride through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, the longest tunnel in North America, 2.5 miles! The tunnel is located 50 miles southeast of Anchorage, near Portage Glacier, and connects the port city of Whittier on Prince William Sound to the Seward Highway and Southcentral Alaska.

Traveling through Portage Valley, you can see several hanging glaciers and beautiful alpine scenery. Depending on the season, you may be able to view salmon spawning in one of the waterways.

Next, visit the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, opened to the public in 1993. It is located on 140 acres at the southern edge of Turnagain Arm and the entrance to Portage Valley. AWCC provides care and rehabilitation for injured and orphaned wildlife, as well as wildlife education and awareness. Animals that are unable to be released or survive in the wild are given refuge in the Center's spacious habitats. Here, people can safely get close, observe, and photograph some of Alaska's largest land animals, including moose, bison, elk, deer, caribou, bears, musk ox, small mammals, and birds of prey.

For lunch we'll visit the quaint town of Girdwood and our favorite Bake Shop. Bottomless soup, sourdough bread, beverages, and dessert will fill you up for the day! After lunch, get ready for the aerial tram ride up the longest double black diamond ski slope in North America. From the top, you can view several glaciers, the northern-most temperate rainforest, and on select days visit the Roundhouse Museum. This museum is perched on the mountainside and surrounded with one continuous viewing deck for your pleasure.

Next we will continue the scenic drive to Anchorage, along the Turnagain Arm, watching for wildlife and making stops for magnificent photo backdrops and wildlife viewing.

Upon arrival in Anchorage, between 2 and 3 pm, you will be transferred to your hotel or the airport.
